Being a new parent is a tricky time. There are millions of products on the market that you can purchase for your little one from bottles and breast pumps to muslins and teethers, you’ve browsed it all. When leaving the house, it can be difficult to know what you actually need to take with you. We have packed your bag for you! We have put together all of our essentials to go in your everyday baby bag to make leaving the house a breeze. Every baby is different and has different needs so your list may not be the same as ours but some bits are ultimate essentials.
- Spare nappies – This may be the literally most obvious thing in the world so lets get it out the way first. We recommend taking enough for the time that you are out and a few extra… You never know when a poo explosion will occur! For nappy changing we also recommend wipes, a nappy cream and small bags to put the soiled nappies in before putting them in the bin.
- Wet Wipes – not only for said poo explosion, but for wiping up messy hands and faces, cleaning any dribbled food off outfits, wiping surfaces before you touch/sit at them if they are dirty… literally who knew wet wipes were such a lifesaver!?
- A full change of clothes for baby – who doesn’t love leaving the house in one outfit, getting it dirty, wet and probably pooping in it so getting changed then coming home!? Babies are messy so taking a change of clothes or two is a good safe back up option!
- Bibs – We suggest packing a choice of 2 or 3 bibs! You don’t know how many times baby may want to feed, if they’re teething how many they may need to protect outfits from dribble etc. They’re an ultimate essential!
- Dummies – if you use these, the chances are you have one close to you at all times anyway but pack spares in case little one drops it or it gets lost!
- Spare Bottles of breastmilk or formula – If bottle feeding, when you’re out baby may get hungry and need a feed or need a bottle to get off to sleep so definitely make sure you have spare bottles.
- Snacks – Sticking on the feeding theme, if your little one is weaning or a little older and onto solid food make sure you have snacks… and plenty of them! The chances are, these snacks are going to be opened, half eaten and then end up at the bottom of your bag in crumbs… but it’s better to have them, than none! If baby doesn’t want them… it’s important to keep Mumma full too, so pack Mumma snacks… of chocolate?!
- Muslins – These are one of our essentials because the uses for them are literally endless… A burp cloth, a breastfeeding cover, a blanket, an emergency nappy, an emergency sun hat, a carseat lining, a comforter for baby… literally the uses are endless.
- A toy for baby – whether it be a comforter or their favourite little toy, they save the day for when little one gets upset or sleepy!
- Teethers – These are super important for any little one who is teething. They are useful to have when you are out and about if little one’s toothy-pegs are pushing through causing pain. It will offer baby some pain relief and something to play with.
- Pack for the weather – If it is colder, pack a hat and some gloves to keep baby warm along with their blanket, if it is sunny perhaps a sun hat and suncream! Make sure you research the right suncream for your little one’s age and skin type.
- Finally, we like to pack a little bottle of hand sanitiser, especially as right now it is the new norm but for the toilets, shops etc just to reduce the risk of bad germs!
