Bath time, a bit like marmite. Little ones tend to love them or hate them, but they must be done…a lot (especially when they are a toddler and decide to cover themselves in whatever they can get their hands on)! That is why it’s important to make them as fun as possible while making sure they get a nice, gentle clean. We have collated our favourite bath time essentials to make splash time fun for you and your little ones so you can have a nice time while getting the job done!
Like with any activity, you need to keep your little ones stimulated. The use of toys and sensory is the key way to distract baby from the bits they don’t like about the bath. There are hundreds of splash time toys out there, so what are the best ones to get?
For smaller babies, we recommend getting a baby bath or a bath support that you can pop in your bath so you know your little splasher is safe. We also love little pourers so you can control where the water goes on baby, how much and make sure little one is having a lovely time.
Knowing if the temperature is right for baby is always hard, so we think you absolutely can’t go wrong with a bath thermometer. It takes the stress and guesswork away so you know that baby will be safe and the water is the right temperature for them.
For when babies are smaller, there aren’t many toys that are suitable as they will be in a smaller bath or a baby bath support so we recommend more gentle toys such as sensory decal stickers like the ones from Block Sensory. These are great because you can stick them in the bath and reuse them around the house. The black and white designs stimulate baby’s cognitive development without over stimulating them, so they are a great distraction while in the bath but it won’t make bedtime after any more difficult through over stimulation! Baby can stare at these during bath time and the stimulation will distract them from the things they don’t like.
For when babies turn a little older and are able to have baths with more space around 12m+, make sure you double check the recommended age for the toy as you don’t want to get one that your little one isn’t old enough for yet. There are so many toy options! We recommend toys that play a song, these are a godsend for when little one is upset about being in the bath, a happy song playing that they may know will distract them and lift their mood! Our favourite craze that has swept the nation recently is Baby Shark and they have just released a load of toys in bright, vibrant colours that are bound to entertain your little ones for splash time fun… although we are sorry you won’t be able to get the song out of your head, we are also sorry we just put the song in your head… VTech also do a wide range of bath time toys that are of a similar build with bright colours, lights and songs!
Another great type of toy are the bags of foam letters that you can use to stick on the side of the bath, spelling out words and letters that your little one will be learning to say. The bright colours and fun sounds are bound to keep them entertained!
